BURDASTYLE 07/2013/105C

Hello!!

I know is not the perfect time to be showing new shorts, as in a lot of places they are having huge blizzards with a lot of snow, but here in Florida the weather has been quite good to us... even if it is more cold than always is not that hard and we can wear jeans or shorts.

The pattern I used to make them, was from the BurdaStyle magazine 07/2013 and I used a cotton blend fabric which is very thick and perfectly for my needs (remember I have 3 kids and I'm always in the ground).

I decided to make this shorts because I wanted new shorts with a bold print but not in bold colors... which are pretty difficult to find. I love that they are so loose like a little skirt, that these have nice and comfortable pockets and that it had some pleats which gives them a kind of nice touch.

These shorts are supposed to have the hem outside but when I was doing it I preferred them without it as I didn't want them that short.

The only thing I didn't liked at all is that I used a metal zipper and I though it would be the right size but it was a bit larger and I didn't knew how to cut it so I was really messing things up until I could do it.... next time a plastic one.  I washed them before wear them and they got a lot of wrinkles even in the belt so I will need to iron them every once in a while.

Oops!!  One photo is upside down, I'll try to fix it later, I hope you like it as it was a fun thing to do and I really like them!

BURDA STYLE JANUARY 2015

Hello!!!Monday is arriving, I don't know why  my weekend goes so fast!! But lets start with a little happiness, such as this nice magazine delivered with a lot of inspiration!!

In my opinion this month Burda arrived with some nice statements, such as the coat in the cover.

I'm feeling  in the mood of trousers and in the first page I found one pair that I liked a lot, even though we have seen them plenty of times before, I don't like that the trousers don't have a zipper, but I have to agree that these make them more comfortable, even though if I prefer fashion over confort.

Then, I must admit I like wearing white in any season, and there are some nice patterns here. First a nice jacket with an asymmetrical front, very well made and  clean lines which make it a fashion statement, and I liked very much the way they style it with the belt. I also like an asymmetrical skirt which I find very easy to wear in the following page with some daily styles for winter.

Burda finally put some patterns on maternity, which I am no longer in need (considering that I sewed  almost all my clothes for my  3pregnancies as I didn't like the old sack style of most of it). I like most this dress which is can be worn a lot of times as it is comfortable, feminine and dressy.

This other dress I find it very unflattering and boring, maybe your couple's shirt with a pair of leggings and the belt will look better.

The pants ahead I just love them, I have one pair of Current Elliot moto jeans which look similar but in white only that I just adored.  I'm planning on making these soon. The style looks very Gwen Stefani which I'm fan!

Vintage fashion is  a very easy but flattering dress for every shape.

Also I  plus size a very chic top and pants, nice color, nice cut and nice accessories.

There are some costumes for kids which are nice but nothing spectacular and some street fashion which didn't appeal my eyes.

In general I like this issue a lot, except for a couple of photos which I think must have been retaken to make  a flattering figure but I enjoyed it and it inspired me a lot.

Tell me, what do you think about it?

Have a great and happy week!!!

GIRL DRESS MCCALL M6914

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

What a busy holiday season, we were traveling the last 20 days visiting family in different places, we move from hot weather to cold weather to hot weather and again cold weather... and with my 3 kids I had to pack lots of things.

Anyway, I did make a second dress for my 3 yo girl, she looked so pretty but I had to finished it on the go. In the first try, the pattern turn to be huge and wide, so I had to cut the bodice in half to reduce it, as I couldn't afford to waste the fabric neither had the time to redo it.

With the reduction I made it was better but when something is big, its big all over, so I tried to fit it the best way I could. It was hard to match the lines, but as I said in another post I like it to be as perfect as I possibly can.

The zipper turn out to be in another color again, but I really appreciate some comments that I had in pattern review and I painted it... what great advise I had, and my nerves stop annoying me... :)

I also tried to learn the blind stich in my machine, but with so little time I ended doing it by hand. Here are some pictures. Hope you like it and please comment.

Happy 2015!!

BURDA 12-2014-146 GIRL DRESS

Hello!!!

As I mention before I totally adored the dress in the last Burda Magazine Dec 2014, so, I decided to start making it for the holidays. It said Festive dress with Tulle perricoat 147 although I don't think it needs the tulle under skirt, but we'll see.

It is a very easy but pretty dress to make. I had a very nice wool in my stash which I decided to use. I bought it when a designer store closed in Mexico City because the designer died and the people just sell as much as they could without knowing the prices... so it was pretty cheap. I have a little left that I might use for my other daughter.

So, I copied the pattern, adjust it as she is thin and tall for her age,  and start cutting which is the boring part of doing it.

I use a pink lining which I think I dont have any picture but it looks amazing, then I start sewing it and overlocking it.

The sleeves look awesome, they have 2 pleats that make the design very beautiful.

Then I put the invissible zipper and I went to the store and they didn't have the color I wanted which annoyed me, but I put a cream one which doesn't show.

I decided to make the hem of the sleeves and the skirt by hand as I've never done it by machine and I don't know if I will trust it or not, so it doesn;t show at all.

A little iron on the back of the invisible zip and a clear match of the belt.

And the dress is done, I just need to try it on her, but it is done!!!!   :)

Burda Style December 2014

Review

For me the best picture of the magazine is this. I loved the styling, the hair, the make up, the outfit and the background,  although I don't know if I would wear the fringe sweater but I think yes.

I really like this month's magazine, I loved the girl dresses, the free style section, the sewing lesson of a basic in my opinion and some of the plus sizes. But also I didn't like some dresses which seem for pregnant women.

Lets start, the first part is called Art Deco with a nice coat and blouse, then a sequin jaquet which a mom without a babysitter never will wear. Following by a dress which show more bump than a pregnant lady, still don't know if it is because of the print or the cut. Unlike for this one:

Then some loose pants or as they called some sequin culottes, which I like and there are a lot very similar in Zara right now.

We switch to a Merry Christmas seccion which I adored as I was looking for some nice dresses to make for my girls

And there is also some women clothes in there that I didn't like, so i won't even talk about them.

In the free style I love the first picture I post and also a cape, which looks super cozy and chic. I really have never worn a cape so I don't know if these are a practical item or not.

And what about this super nice coat. I have a similar one from Desigual which I use to used a lot. For me a great piece to have.

And again another pregnancy dress which is very similar to the cover, I used these kind of dresses when i was pregnang and for a large bust these look horrible.. Even the lenght is awful here. Unlike

The sewing lesson is for a turtleneck which I think is a basic as it is pretty and can be made in so many different fabrics and prints.

Finally I loved that they made a section for pajamas as I always use a "boyfriend shirt" or sets of shirt and pants, there are even some ballerinas, and tops with shorts.... I might try some of these patterns soon.

For the plus size I found 2 things, again the pregnancy dress or the "show the bump" with a curved line and they also allowed us to make a general reflection on an important topic as it is underwear.

My grade for December Burda is 85% which is pretty good for me in comparisson to others. What do you think?

Hope you enjoy.
